In/dispensable Details
The publication IN/DISPENSABLE DETAILS, and its subheading of Buttons from Jablonec and the Jizera Mountains, looks at the uniquie cultural and historical phenomenon of "buttons", which have been an integral part of the Jablonec jewellery industry for almost three hundred years now. Jablonec and Jizera Mountanins buttons, and in particular those made of glass, became a popular collector´s item during the 20th centur, taking their place in private and museum collections in Central Europe as examples of significant regional production and demostrating technological developments and the variability of designs. What is more, they were known all round the world.
Buttons from the Jablonec region and the Jizera Mountains, and from elsewhere for that matter, are often neglected, regarded as an add-on, something attractive and cute, but the same time common , something that always has been and always will be. Our hope is that this book will help boost interest in buttons, both in museum and private collections and in the treasures of our ancestors still waiting to be discovered.
