This year, our museum celebrates its 120th anniversary. Opened to the public for the first time in 1904, it was transformed from a city museum with a local history, glass and jewellery exhibition, into a specialized institution in the 1960s, which has been established by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic since 2003 due to the uniqueness of its focus and the quality of its collection. The museum will celebrate the round anniversary for the whole year. On April 24, among other things, a performance in the permanent exhibition World of Worlds prepared the results of the 1st year of the International Symposium of Glass Christmas Ornaments, which the museum organized as part of the International Triennial of Glass and Jewellery JABLONEC 2023. Its aim was to connect glass designers with manufacturers of Christmas ornaments and allow them to experiment together. "In the premiere year, we approached the designer pairs DECHEM, ILLOLA, LLEV and the companies GLASSOR, IRISA, RAUTIS. The results exceeded our expectations, as well as the enthusiasm with which all participants put themselves into the project," said symposium curator Dagmar Havlíčková. Created originals will enrich the World of Worlds exhibition. "The ornaments from the symposium will be on display abroad this year as well, in cooperation with the Czech Consulate General in Hong Kong," added the museum's chief curator, Petr Nový.
