We cordially invite you to the ceremonial unveiling of a memorial plaque dedicated to the museum’s founder, Karl Richard Fischer. The event is part of the celebration of the museum's 120th anniversary and will take place on Saturday, 14th September 2024, at 2:00 pm.
A teacher, regional historian, mayor of the city of Jablonec nad Nisou, and one of the key figures shaping the Jablonec region at the beginning of the 20th century – that was Karl Richard Fischer.
His contributions will be commemorated by the memorial plaque.
In 1868, a group of Jablonec entrepreneurs, united under the Industrial Educational and Support Association for Jablonec nad Nisou, decided to preserve the results of their work for future generations. They did not stop at words, but immediately began the first collection and, on 25th March 1904, opened the first permanent exhibition of the new museum. Karl R. Fischer was a co-creator of this local museum, which opened its first exhibition in 1904. This date is therefore regarded as the founding year of the Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou. “He enriched the museum's original focus on applied arts by adding historical and ethnographic dimensions. In connection with his work on the museum committee, he published his first small regional-historical articles in the local press," said chief museum curator Petr Nový.
"The plaque was created in cooperation with the Secondary School of Applied Arts and Higher Vocational School in Jablonec, and the design was created by Alžběta Blažejová, a second-year student," added the museum director, Milada Valečková.
